Can I ask an organiser questions before joining their activity?
A: Yes. There are two ways you can do this. If it’s a question that other members might be interested in, you should post a comment in the Questions and Answers tab of the Activity page. This is like asking a seller a question in eBay or posting a comment on a blog. As in eBay, your question and the organiser’s answer may be posted publicly (so that everyone doesn’t ask the same question).
If it’s more of a private question, or you simply want to have a ‘conversation’ with the organiser to get to know them, the private messaging system is the way to go (click on their profile and write them a message).
Note: only subscribers can send a message. If your subscription has expired, or if you are on a trial membership, you can not send a message – this limitation is to combat abuse by spammers.
How do I know the activity is for real, and will go ahead?
Given the fact that only subscribing and therefore committed members can create an activity on Facetime, all of the activities are for real. However if you are unsure, a good way to start is to check the organiser’s member profile. Did he or she provide a relevant profile description, with a recognisable profile photo? Some organisers even have received a rating for the activities they have received in the past, which is always a good sign. If you’re still unsure, use the messaging system or forum to ask the organiser and/or other participants to confirm that the activity is going ahead, especially when there are few participants on it.
Can I change the details of an activity I’ve organised (e.g. time, date, address) ?
Yes. Simply open the activity via “My Activities’ (on your MyTime Page) or “Calendar” and change it however you like. Don’t forget to notify the activity participants once you’ve done this! You can do this via the Send a Message button underneath the list of participants on the Activity page.
Can I get to know other members before meeting them in real life?
Of course you can. Via their Profile page, you can learn about their age and gender, their interests or see what they look like (can be helpful to spot each other in a public location) You can see how long they have been a member, what activities they have attended in the past, or in some instances learn what others have said about the activities they may have organised themselves.
Plus you can use the so-called ice-breakers to make a first contact much smoother: you can send them a personal message, participate in forums, start a live chat sessions with them or just send them a ‘hi’.
Can I control who gets to join my activities?
Yes, in 5 different ways no less:
- You can define and enforce the participant profile characteristics for your activity, so that members who do not meet these characteristics will not be able to join (or request to join) your activity.
- You can make you activity ‘private’, so that members can only join the activity after you have personally approved their request to join your activity.
- You can add certain members to your ‘Blocklist’, stopping them from joining your activities.
- You can make an activity hidden from view, so that only the people you personally invite get to see the activity page. Your ‘hidden’ activity will not be listed in the public activity calendar, not will it be searchable by other members.
- If you create a group activity, you can open the activity up to only members of your group.
Do I have to accept anyone who wants to join my activity?
No. You’re in control of who joins your ‘private’ activities. When someone asks to join, you can check out their profile (and the other activities they’re involved in), maybe even have a chat with them. Then go with your gut feel. If you don’t feel comfortable with them joining, simply decline their request to join your activity. If you choose to decline a request to join, you have the option of sending a short note explaining him or her your reasons.
Can I remove someone my activity after they have joined it?
Yes you can. If you have changed your mind about someone attending your activity, simply remove them from your list of participants via the Activity profile. If you choose to remove a participant, you have the option of sending him a short note explaining him or her your reasons.
Can I control who gets to see my activities?
Yes – in two ways.
- You can have an activity ‘not posted on site’, so that only the people you personally invite get to see the activity page. Your ‘non-posted’ activity will not be listed in the public activity calendar, not will it be searchable by other members.
- You can define and enforce the participant profile characteristics for your activity, so that members who do not meet these characteristics will not see your activity listed in our Calendar.
Can I use Facetime to organise a private date?
Of course you can – and many lovebirds do! The best way to do so, is by creating an activity that is ‘not posted’ on the site, so that only the person you personally invite gets to see the activity page. Your ‘hidden’ activity will not be listed in the public activity calendar, not will it be searchable by other members.
How do I get my activity featured on the home page?
Facetime will automatically feature most activities that i) have 8 or more participants (1 week out before the activity date) ii) have a photo on the activity page, and iii) are organised by members with a completed profile.
How do I ask to join someone else’s activity?
Once you’ve found an activity you want to join, simply click the “Join” button, and you’re on the way to having fun. While the organiser can decline your request, most activities are open to all-comers, so their organisers are more than happy to accept anyone who wants to join. That’s the point! It’s all about having fun with like-minded people, after all…!
How do I find an activity that I can join?
You can browse by category or location, or search by a particular word (such as the specific activity type and your suburb). Most activities are open to all-comers; all you have to do is ask to join.

How do I know that I can trust an other member?
Whenever you meet someone new, online or off, you have to use your best judgement. When you chat with someone at a shopping centre or a nightclub, you use your instincts to judge whether you can trust them. The same applies here.
How do I organise a new activity?
Simple: click ‘Create Activity’ button or links on i) you MyTime page, 2) Activity list page 3) Calendar page.
What happens when I adopt an activity?
When clicking “Create an Activity ’, it effectively copies the activity data over and becomes your activity – however you can still edit any part of the activity should you wish. From that point your activity can be found by others in the search. We recommend you then do a search and invite other members to your activity.
What if I can’t make it to an activity I joined?
If you absolutely can’t make it, you should go the activity page and click on “Leave Activity” – this will take you off the participants list. The organiser will be automatically informed. But remember, if you pull out of activities frequently, you’re probably letting quite a few people down. This means you’ll eventually be invited or accepted to fewer activities.
What if I’ve organised an activity, but I can’t make it?
If the activity can still go ahead without you, you should contact everyone who’s participating, and let them know you can’t make it. You may also want to suggest someone to take over as organiser of the activity. Then click ‘Leave Activity’ on the Activity page. This will open up the ownership to anyone of the participants who chooses to fill the vacant spot as activity organiser.
If the activity can’t go on in your absence, you can cancel it. But please remember that if other people have confirmed that they’ll be there, cancelling the activity will really put them out. Although it’s not an enforced rule, it’s considered poor netiquette to outright cancel an activity without a really, really good reason. And remember, if you bail out of activities you’ve organised, you’ll find it more and more difficult to get others to accept future invitations.
Can there be more then 1 organiser of an activity?
Yes! As an organiser of an activity, you can nominate other participants of your activity to be a co-organiser of your activity, giving them equal access to all the activity management tools. This means that they can edit your activity profile, set the access rights and approve or decline join requests from others. The only thing they can’t do is delete the activity, or remove other co-organisers. Plus: only the original organiser of the activity will be credited with the ratings their activity might receive.
How does the rating system work?
The Ratings System is there to give organisers credibility and to tell other members how much fun they missed out on! After each activity, attendees are able to complete a rating (1 to 5 stars) and make a comment about the activity. This rating, attached to the activity, will show in the organisers profile and an average of all ratings received will show on the organisers’ profile. We encourage all attendees to give organisers feedback via the Ratings system.

Can I have a Private Group?
Yes. If you create a private activity, you can create a private group. This means that members can only join your group after you have approved their request to do so. So while the name of the group will show up in your profile, no other users can click through to the details of the group unless you have invited them to join the group.
What other tools are available to manage the group?
Check out the Update Group link on your Group Page. You can:
- Determine what group members can or can not do on behalf of the group, i.e. invite new group members; organise group activities, delete forum posts, upload photo’s or create the group profile.
- Change the newsfeed settings of the group, so that only the most relevant updates appear on the main group page (all newsfeeds are listed on a separate tab)
- Nominate additional group administrator, giving then equal powers to edit the group profile, define group member profile requirements, accept or decline new group members and change the newsfeed settings, etceteras.
- Change the email notification settings so you and other group members know (or not!) when things happen in your group.
What does it mean to ‘suggest a merger’ with a group?
If you are the owner of a group that is very similar to another group (e.g. both are located in the same city, and both evolve around the same activity type) then it might be an idea to suggest merging the two groups together. You and the other group’s owner can agree to both be owners of the new group, and settle on a new group title. After the merger has completed, all members of both groups are transferred to the new group. Also all the past and future group activities, activity ratings and group albums now appear on the new groups’ page.

How many Friends Lists can I build?
There is no limit to the amount of Friends Lists you can build.
How does the automatic list building work?
(From October) You can ask Facetime to automatically add new members, who meet the characteristics you define, to your designed Friends Lists. In that way, you can quickly build your personal contact lists of members who share your interests. This can be very useful if, at some later stage, you for instance organise an activity (say a kayaking trip) and like to invite all kayakers in Sydney to join you without having to perform a members search first.
I prefer not to pay via credit card – are there other ways?

The payment amount will represent the difference (or balance) between the price of a standard and the price of a premium subscription, taking into account the remaining months of your current subscription. Please contact info@facetime.com.au.
What is the difference between standard and premium subscription
Premium members are able to contact all Facetime members, including non-subscribers.
In other words, Premium Members have a wider reach, and an increased ability to organise larger group activities that attract tens or even hundreds of participants (including new Facetime members who may prefer to try a few more activities, or meet a few more people, before purchasing a standard subscription).
So if you’re a very social, vivacious and active person with plenty of ideas for activities, or you really serious about expanding your social network of friends, a premium subscription may be for you!
